Almost anyone with a pulse these days is aware of the myriad civil lawsuits and criminal charges facing Sean “Diddy” Combs. The rapper, entertainer and mega mogul stands accused of sexually harassing and or assaulting more than 100 individuals of both sexes and at least one minor child.
Some of those accusing Combs of sexual harassment were allegedly working for the business mogul in some capacity. One man who claimed he was sexually assaulted by the defendant is a man who was formerly employed as a security guard at one of the lavish parties given by the hip-hop star.
Cases could explode across the country
Thus far, most of the civil litigation and criminal charges appear to originate from the East Coast, as Combs grew up in New York City and was a major player in the East Coast – West Coast rapper wars that cost the lives of at least two mega rap stars, Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls (The Notorious B.I.G.).
However, when you have a celebrity with worldwide fame and recognition, it is highly likely that those employed by Combs in California and other states could also come forth with their own allegations of sexual harassment.
Separating the civil from the criminal
The burden of proof is far greater in a criminal court than in a civil court for the obvious reason — much more is at stake. A criminal defendant’s life and liberty can be on the line, but in a civil courtroom, the penalties are typically financial and often quite substantial.
You don’t have to have suffered sexual harassment on the job by a major celebrity to get the opportunity to seek legal redress. Learning more about the path to justice can help make you whole again.
